Auburn University will be with us Wednesday 10/3 at 10:30. Auburn is widely recognized for the quality of its undergraduate, graduate and professional educational programs, the effectiveness of its research and outreach programs and the broad access to the University provided through the innovative use of information technology.  TIGER OR WAR EAGLE: The To get right to the point, Auburn's only nickname is the Tigers. We're the Auburn Tigers. Auburn has been known as the Tigers since the university first fielded a football team in 1892 to play the Georgia Bulldogs in Atlanta. “War Eagle” is Auburn's battle cry. Auburn has never referred to any of its teams as “Eagles” or “War Eagles.” To the Auburn Family, it's very simple. We are the Tigers who yell “War Eagle!”

Next ACT date is 10/27….deadline to register is 9/28. Next SAT is 11/3…deadline to register is 10/5. The Princeton Review has a great website where students can take a short practice quiz to get a good comparison of the two tests. Link is: https://www.princetonreview.com/college/sat-act

1) What GPA and ACT score do you need just to be admitted? Answer: A 2.85 GPA and 18 ACT score OR a 2.5 GPA and 21 ACT score but these scores get you NO UTC SCHOLARSHIP MONEY. BUT GUESS HOW MUCH Scholarship money you automatically receive if you have: 2) 3.2 GPA and 22 ACT? (answer $6500) 3) 3.4 GPA and 25 ACT?  (answer $7500) 4) 3.75 GPA and 29 ACT? (answer $8500) Note: annual tuition is about $8900 so this is a HUGE chunk toward it. 5) How many times can you take the ACT? (Answer: a whopping 12 times!, Not suggesting they do this, point is most people do better the more they take it, you should definitely take it several times before November of your senior year) POINT TO DRIVE HOME: Your future is wide open, is just takes some PLANNING. We are here to help you reach that 10 year goal.

Superintendent Bryan Johnson's new initiative for all high schools to offer a "Future Ready Institute" for students as a way to expose them to various occupations and make all learning relevant to students by using real-life, problem-based, cross-curricular work. This will be for both honors and non-honors students and will meet all requirements for students to graduate and continue on to college or the workforce. They will have multiple opportunities throughout the 4 year program for dual credit, as well as DE and AP classes. In a nutshell: Students may choose to apply and attend any school based on the institute they wish to be a part of, but they must provide their own transportation. The institute offered in 2018-2019 school year at SDHS is Entrepreneurship with emphasis in A/V production, Marketing and Web Development. Students will be able to participate in the institute while in band, sports or JROTC. They will be able to take regular and/or honors classes, as well. Students will have the opportunity to accumulate as many as 21 hours of college credit while participating in an institute throughout high school. We currently have 2 partnerships with businesses in downtown Chattanooga and have others who have shown interest, including UTC's School of Business. The institute is beginning with 9th grade students. We currently have 70 students who are participating.  All teachers participating in the institute this year have participated in a week-long training at UNUM this past summer and have learned much about cross-curricular, problem-based learning. The culmination for students in the institute will be their work-based learning during their senior year, whether partnered with an outside business or working at school on our website, in our store, or with local teachers.
