HCDE Summer Reading List
Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom

Morrie Schwartz is a beloved college professor who-in his late sixties-finds out he is dying from ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. The story of his last few weeks on earth is told by Mitch, one of his former students. ALS is destroying Morrie’s muscles, making him weaker and weaker. He and his wife prepare for their new life living with ALS. How?

Morrie begins opening up his home to visitors, reaching out to everyone he knows. Meanwhile, Mitch has been living a life of mediocrity, constantly working and not making time for those he loves. Luckily for Mitch, he sees his old professor on Nightline, and the friendship is re-established. Read Tuesdays with Morrie to discover the lessons Mitch learns from Morrie and the way their friendship impacts the lives of both men…as well as how it comes to an end.

The Chattanooga Public Library is proud to present its 2019 List of recommended Summer Reading Picks.

Chosen by local expert librarians, these titles are great reads and are highly regarded in the book community, receiving many awards, excellent reviews and popular appeal. We hope that the 2019 List will help your family pick the best book for your child, grades K-12.

All of the books on the list are available at your local library. Your local librarian can suggest additional titles. Reading in the summer helps build on the skills obtained during the school year so that learning continues into the next grade year.

We need the support and encouragement of families to ensure that all of our children become excellent readers.
